Test B: Length of School Day
We are going to give you a research prompt so we can understand how you find information online. Do what you normally do when you use the Internet to find information. There is no right or wrong answer.
Scenario: Recently, several school districts have moved to change their schedules. There is research showing students can learn better when they start school later in the morning. However, some parents and students feel that since school will be getting out an hour later, there will be less time for after school jobs, sports, and so forth.
Your Job: Your school is considering starting and ending the school day an hour later. Compile information to help you write a letter to the school board expressing your position on whether the school day should start and end an hour later. You will not actually write the letter, but you will do online research and organize your research into an outline.
1. Find at least three websites that have good information about this topic.
2. Gather information from these websites that supports your position.
3. Create an outline that organizes and categorizes the information in a way that supports your position.
4. Write your position statement at the top of the page so that the outline is below it.
